This poem has great significance in Indian history and culture as it was authored by the Vijayanagar emperor Sri Krishna Deva Raya in the 16th century. The Sanskrit poet Vyasatirtha who wrote Bhedo-jjivanaTat-parya-chandrikaNyaya-mrita a work directed against Advaita philosophy and Tarka-tandava enjoyed his patronage.
